Stream of Consciousness Self Introduction by a Library Enthusiast

Hello Everyone,

My name is Kit Jackson, pronouns She/They. I’m autistic, so I either keep too much eye contact or not enough and I can struggle sometimes with speaking. Your patience and understanding is always appreciated. I’m an English & Comparative Literature major, this is my third semester after transferring in. My future goal is to get my Master’s in Library Sciences, I’m taking ECL as my Bachelor’s because I love reading and writing. I have a wide variety of creative endeavors that I am a part of – I draw, sculpt, paint, act, etc. I’ve got a YouTube show that my wife and I have created, I can link it if anyone is interested. As a fair heads up, it is kind of a weird one. You’ve been warned.

My personal interests vary pretty heavily, which is partially because I have 4 older siblings that got me into media from before I was born. I really like foreign horror movies, video games, and comics. I’ve been getting into Manhwa more recently, as well as Webtoons, though I do read some Image & Dark Horse comics. Video games are something I’ve always been passionate about – some of my favorites being Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Age, .hack//, Final Fantasy VII, Claire Obscur: Expedition 33, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Unpacking. I definitely lean more towards fantasy over science fiction with the stories I consume, but I could never turn down a well written slice of life story.

This class really interests me, because I adore learning about the many different sources of inspiration for stories. I know that Moby Dick is a culturally significant book that has found its way into thousands of other pieces of media. Getting to learn more about those influences is a bit like being in on an inside joke – the more you know, the more you understand. That aside, I love to play Dungeons and Dragons, which is about as close to collaborative storytelling as you can get. This class having a collaborative emphasis sounds really interesting and right up my alley.

All this to say, I’m a massive nerd and I look forward to this class with you.

Take care!

  1. Kit! How lovely to have you in class, and thanks for being the brave one to post early. You are already leading us, and I look forward to getting to know you.

  2. Hi Kit! It is so nice to meet you. I also enjoy playing Final Fantasy VII, like Tifa Lockhart is just that girl to me. I also want to get my masters in library science as well! Thank you for sharing!

    • Hi Liz – that’s so awesome! I can’t lie, I’m an Aerith girl myself, but Tifa is super cool. Absolutely no shade on her, she’s a strong party member and an interesting voice in the crew. That’s wonderful that we’re both working on the same degree – do you know what school you’ll be going to after your Bachelor’s?

  3. Hello Kit, it’s nice to meet you. I also want to get my Master’s in Library Sciences. I am also very passionate about video games. I love the Red Dead Redemption games, the Fallout games, and the Resident Evil games, plus many more. I have played Dragon Age Origins and I absolutely loved it and I have also played some of Dragon Age 2. It’s funny because I never enjoyed games like those but I saw a friend playing it and I absolutely enjoyed it. I look forward to working with you and thank you for sharing!

    • Hey Francisca,
Holy smokes – we’ve got 3 people gearing up for that Master’s program! You, me, and Liz Martin. Do you know what school you want to go to for it? Oooh, Resident Evil and Fallout are my jams – particularly the modern Resident Evils and Fallout 4. I have never been super into Westerns, so I had some trouble connecting to RDR, but I have heard it’s a phenomenal series. I think we probably had similar experiences – RDR for me and DA for you. Some game styles just aren’t for everyone, but that’s okay! I look forward to working with you too!
      Take care 🙂

  4. Hello Kit, its a proper opportunity to read about you during this message, and you major looks like so fantastic especially that shows you are familiar at what is going on the field of the library. I want you to know that my major is English, but for English single subject teacher, and the reason that I chose this is because I have worked in this field for many years, but not here, and I wish to get my bachelor degree from this university, so that I can be able to continue teaching here in America as well finally, I wish you the best during this semester, and have a happy weekend. • Hi Yousuf,
Thank you for your kind words! I can definitely understand why you would want to continue in your field – I wish you the best of luck with your Bachelor’s! Teaching is a challenging but incredibly important job. I wish you the best this semester and hope you’ve had an excellent weekend!
      Take care

  5. Hello Kit!

I’m not that surprised that you’ve played Final Fantasy VII, Claire Obscur: Expedition 33, and Baldur’s Gate 3, but I didn’t expect for someone to mention them by name here. Thanks for sharing!

    • Hi Zach,
That’s totally fair – I think a lot of people went for less specificity in their introductions. I just figured that if I mentioned some by name I had better luck building conversations with everyone over the games we mutually enjoy. Are you a gamer as well?
      Take care 🙂
